The Christian Right and its Impact on American Politics

Auther : Abdullah J. AL-ghamdi

Many political analysts argue that Christian Right groups are beginning to arise as a major religious and social force with enormous impact on the American political landscape. This shift however goes back to the late 1980s but it has become obvious since the 1994s election, during which time religious right groups have helped elect candidates to public office at local, state, and national level and have had considerable impact on several significant issues such as abortion, homosexuality, family values, prayers at school and the US support of Israel. This study attempts to analyze the reasons behind this shift toward religious values in the United States and its possible consequences on American politics. In doing so the study focuses on one of the most active organizations of the Christian Right, the Christian Coalition, which is founded and led by the evangelist and politician Pat Robertson.
