Spatial Variation of Industrial Land Use in Saudi Cities

Auther : Abdallah Al-Solai

Saudi Arabian economic social and housing sectors have experienced a measurable growth during the past two decades, especially in the main cities. This growth is mostly in population count, level of income, and in the demand for more consumption and production goods. These factors combined with various public polices have encouraged more investment in the industrial sector. As a result, industrial land-use in the cities is growing rabidly. Variation in this growth among cities has been noted, but has not been studied. The main purpose of this research is to analyze spatial variation of industrial land-use in Saudi cities. It also attempts to determine the factors that explain these variations. To achieve these objectives, data were collected from related ministries and other government agencies. A number of statistical techniques were used to analyze these data. It is hoped that the results of this study will contribute significantly to the understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of urban industrial land-use in the Saudi Arabian cities.

Key words: Spatial variation, Industrial policy in Saudi Arabia, Industrial land use, Five year plans, Industrial planning.
