Attitudes towards Computer: A Study of Gender Differences and other Variables

Auther : Ibrahim Shawky Abdelhamid

This study aims to discover the gender differences in attitudes towards computers. A sample of 400 male and female students from Cairo University completed a questionnaire on Attitudes Towards Computers (ATC). These attitudes include three components; computer anxiety, computer liking and beliefs in computer benefits. Results revealed no significant differences on these components except one, i.e.; computer anxiety. So both males and females have positive computer attitudes. However, females scored a higher degree on computer anxiety owing to insufficient computer training or use. While males are less anxious, even there is neither training nor use. So they are more likely to own and use computers. Other results relating to the differences in computer attitudes among groups according to age, computer training and use have been discussed.

Key words: Attitudes towards Computer, Computer anxiety, Gender differences.
