Cognitive Levels and Bannatyne Categorization of IQ Subscores among Special Needs Children

This study aims to find: (1) the relationships between Cognitive Level Scores and Bannatyne Categorization of IQ subscores for three groups of special needs children (mentally retarded, slow learner, and emotional disordered). (2) the differences between males and females, older and younger children, and among the three groups of special needs in Cognitive Levels and IQ subscores. A sample of 142 children (60 mentally retarded, 22 slow learner, and 60 emotional disordered) aged 9 to 12 years administered the Cognitive Level and WISC tests. The study results were: a) Cognitive Levels and IQ subscores were positively correlated (0.40 to 0.94), b) the groups of special needs were different in IQ subscores and Cognitive Levels, but no gender differences were detected, c) older children were higher than younger in IQ subscores and Cognitive Levels, and d) the Congnitive Levels scores combined with IQ subscores were best discriminated the three groups.
