Memoirs of an Arabian Princess:

The paper discusses the relevance of autobiography to anthropological studies especially the ethnographic. This paper analyses ``Memoirs of an Arabian Princess’’, the autobiography of the Oman princess Salma Bint al Sultan Said al Boussaidi, which was published in 1875. It is the first memoirs published by an Arab woman, although it was written in German. It has a great significance for Arab feminist studies.

The paper also discusses the ethnographic data regarding the nineteenth century Zanzibari society in general, which had its historical and cultural characteristics, and the life in the Hareem in particular, in an important historical era for a society which vanished with the fall of the Arab rule in this African island. it also discusses the writer’s views towards western civilization.
