Auther : Mohammed M. Al-Garni

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of role ambiguity, role conflict, and need for clarity on social work practice. Sixty social workers (42 males and 18 females) in medical settings were surveyed. The questionnaire was designed and administered by the researcher. The multiple regression analysis was used to predict the impact of the independent variables on social work practice. The study achieved several results, most important of which is that the role ambiguity, role conflict, and need for clarity had negative relationships with social work practice, i.e. the high level of role ambiguity, role conflict, and /or need for clarity, the low level of social work practice. In addition, the predictive model revealed that 24% of the variance of social work practice was explained by the combination of role ambiguity, role conflict, and need for clarity. The need for social worker role description is emphasized.

Key words: Role ambiguity, Role conflict, Need for clarity, Social work practice, Medical setting.
