Auther : Ahmed S. Bin Abeed

To achieve this end, the paper outlined first labor demand and supply trends and discussed potential national labor employment in the GCC states. The paper then estimated labor demand equation using pooled cross-section time-series method. The estimation results indicated the following:

(2)  The determinants of private sector labor demand in the GCC states are employment compensation, interest rate, the GDP, and government employment compensation,

(3)  Private sector labor demand is inelastic and thus may reflect inadequacy of certain tools of national labor substitution policy, and

(4)  Fiscal and monetary policies do affect the private sector capability in employing national labor through their effect on interest rates.

Key words: The GCC states, Private sector, Labor market in the GCC states, Employment, Demand for labor.
