The Development of Irrational Thoughts in Early and Middle "aged" of Kuwaiti Adolescence

This current study aims at identifying irrational thoughts prevalent among Kuwaiti tten-agers and the factors impacting such thinking in terms of age factor (early or middle adolescence) as well as gender. The researcher used a comparative, relational and descriptive approach. The sample of this study consisted of (489) Kuwaiti adolscent students in intermediate and secondary schools of both genders. They were divided into two groups, the first comprised 193 early adolescents, males and females aged (12-14) years, the second comprised middle-adolescents aged (15-17) years totaling 289 males and females. The irrational beliefs scale for children and adolscents was used. The findings indicated that adolescents' irrational thought exist moderately. The most common irrational thought among the entire sample of adolescents were the expectation of calamities, followed by the idea of seeking complete solutions, and the idea of avoiding problems. There were statistically significant differences among adolescents in the early stage and the intermediate stage in the overall degree of irrational thoughts and in 8 irrational thoughts represented in seeding plaudits, searching for personal completeness, emotional recklessness, increased anxiety, dependency, feeling of helplessness, getting upset over People's  problems, and seeking complete solutions. It was concluded that irrational thoughts evolve and increase as individuals develop from early adolescence to middle adolescence.
