The Refraining of Kuwaiti Working Women from Political Participation - A Study Applied in the College of Social Science of Kuwait University

Supporting the participation of Kuwaiti women represents a high priority at the national concern, and this is apparent in the keenness of activating her political participation as a cornerstone in the community which depends upon achieving the overall development because of its influence in the deepening of democracy and the principle of citizenship. However, the real practice of the political process by women are still marginal and ineffective. Hence, research aimed to answer the following main question : Why working women stay away from political participation, although they are educated and get out daily for work and have contact with public life in the community and its varied institutions in addition to their ability to disclose their demands.
- The results showed that the most important reasons for the reluctance of working women's political participation are :
Social factors such as : Customs and traditions which qualifies men over women in addition to the growing burden of women  and the lack of confidence in MPs ( Members of the Parliament)  and  the doubt in the integrity of the elections with the prevailing stereotypes of the election system.
Cultural factors such as : Misinterpretation of some religious texts in addition to low status of women in the community and low spirit of competition against men.
Economical factors such as : Limited financial ability of women on spending on election campaigns with the lack of contributors from organizations and bodies and political parties supporting women and the non-compliance with the controls on spending on election campaigns.
- Proposals to activate the political participation of women : The results showed the importance of emphasizing literacy of women generally and give women the freedom to express their opinion in all legal channel supporting them doing this, and provide the voting cards for each woman who have the right to elect and the adoption of national number as a constraint to vote with the establishment of political organizations to support women politically.
