The Variation of Industrial Endemism C-efficients in the Developmental Regions in Jordan

Auther : Mahmoud Abdallah AL-Habees

The aim of this study is to analyze the industrial activities across the developing regions in Jordan and to reveal the nature of the spatial distribution of Jordanian industrial activities as well as the distribution of the manpower used in these activities. The spatial variation pattern and properties of industrial endemism in these activities is intended to highlight the rate of industrial importance through the use of appropriate coefficients of industrial endemism.
The present study utilizes the official data published by the Jordanian Department of Statistics, related to the three developmental regions formulated by the governmental authorities. The Northern Region accommodates the governorates of Irbid, Mafraq, Ajlun and Jarash. The Central region consists of the Capital city of Amman, Balqa, Zarqa and Madaba governorates, whereas the Southern Region consists of Karak, Ma'an, Tafiela and Aqaba governorates.
The study concludes that there are differences in the coefficients' values of the endemism, related to economic facilities by region and by activity as well as the presence of injustice at the relative distribution of these activities and manpower. Moreover, a disparity in the rate of industrial importance for each region exists. Therefore, the study recommends that more attention must be paid to both the northern and southern regions to promote investment opportunities in the industrial sector. In Addition, the coefficients values of industrial endemism must be stressed through effective and efficient planning to avoid weakness and to utilize industrial planning methodology in order to develop the northern and southern developmental regions in Jordan.
Keywords: Developmental regions, Industrial endemism, Spatial variation, Industrial investment, and Industrial complexes.
