KUWAITIS'ATTITUDES TOWARDS VERBAL ABUSE AS PRACTICED BY MEMBERS OF THE KUWAITI PARLIAMENT (MAJLIS EL-UMMA)

Auther : Abdulmohsen Abbas Dashti

This study aims at investigating Kuwaitis' attitudes towards verbal abuse as practiced by members of the Kuwaiti Parliament (Majlis el-umma) from a sociolinguistic perspective.
A questionnaire composed of 21 statements was designed and randomly distributed to 439 Kuwaitis representing different government and private sectors. Gender, age and academic degree of the samples were investigated as independent variables. The results were statistically analyzed through the use of t- tests and One-way Anova,  which showed significant differences. Both Mean and Standard deviation for the questionnaire's statements were also examined. The results indicated that the sample population almost unanimously agreed with most of the questionnaire's statements and that the samples' responses to the study's hypotheses are statistically significant. The results also showed significant differences regarding gender as an independent variable, whereas there were no significant differences found regarding age and academic degree as independent variables.
Keywords: Sociolinguistics, Verbal violence, Kuwaiti Parliament.
