A Study of Job Satisfaction and Organizational Characteristics In Kuwaiti Special Libraries and Information Centers

Job satisfaction has been studied for its value and association with organizational performance, productivity, and profitability. A number of organizational characteristics have been examined for their central position in organizational behavior and human resource development in organizations. For this study, the following organizational variables were selected to examine their association with job satisfaction: supervision, teamwork, working conditions, autonomy, and opportunities for career advancement. Data was collected from seventy professional librarians working in elevenspecial libraries and information centers in Kuwait. A questionnaire was administered by managers of these libraries. A typical respondent was a young graduate, Kuwaiti national, with an experience of about 8-10 years. Pearson correlation coefficient was computed and it was found that all the five organizational variables were significantly correlated with job satisfaction.
