Globalization and the Relationship between Identity and the Language of Education A Theoretical and Empirical Approach in the Light of Pierre Bourdieu's Arguments of the Reproduction Theory

Auther : Suhair S. Abduljied

The study sets off from a pivotal issue which says that education, through its language, is one of the entries of the formation of identity. Building that identity assumes a state of harmony and equality among the people of the same country, which can be realized by the principle of democracy that is adopted by the educational institution. To analyze this issue, we carry out a field study based on Bourdieu's reproduction theory. The study focuses on the alienation role of education through its language in the new capital system in the era of globalization. The study will also deal with the class function of its covert approach manifested in the symbolic violence and silent messages as a force that targets the humanitarian aspects in the school and tries to destroy them.
The study aims at answering an important question, namely: What are the limitations of the relationship that holds between language and identity in the age of globalization? It is a question that implies the existence of such relationship between them, and this question and its implication recall a number of issues and inquiries which the study tries to answer.
The study reached several conclusions, the most important of which are the following: in the age of globalization the relationship between the language of education and the identity has become commercial promoting the marketing of identity as a commodity and marketing the language independently of the identity under a practical (pragmatic) law providing that the public never keep two languages eternally when one of them is considered adequate enough for all contexts.
