Life Span Variance between Genders; Its Reasons and Influencing Factors: An Analytical Study

Auther : Muneer A. Karadsheh Rahma Al-Mahrooqi Qasem M.Dweikat

This study aims to review the variations in the life span between males and females primarily based on a descriptive analytical approach. The research is based on the annual data sheet provided by the United Nations to all countries across the world that focuses mainly on life expectancy at birth in 242 countries. The study used several statistical methods to analyze the data, ranging from simple descriptive methods represented by comparative means to more advanced analyses such as the Stepwise Regression Model. The results concluded that women live longer than men in most societies and that life expectancy among women generally varies from one society to another. The study linked women's higher rates of life span with some biological, demographic and social indicators prevailing in different societies. The results of the Stepwise Regression Model proved the important effects of certain variables, such as the period of population doubling, the rate of infant mortality, the income rate as well as the percentage of population below age 15 in determining the characteristics of life expectancy according to gender in world population.
