The Second Generation of Sudanese Expatriates in the U.A.E: Home Attachment in the Host Culture: An Exploratory Study

Auther : Musa Shallale / Abdallah Hamide

This interdisciplinary research sheds some light on the second generation of Sudanese expatriates. It focuses on their identity, sense of belonging, and their attitudes towards different aspects of life in Sudan. A sample of 84 young Sudanese expatriates participated in this study (aged between 15-30 years). 70% of the respondents were male and 30% female. A questionnaire especially designed for the purpose of this study was used. The results, in general, show that this generation has a high level of sense of belonging to Sudan, and they are proud to be Sudanese. The results also reflect that the respondents are less worried about their countrys economic situation compared to their worries about the political situation. They further believe that the current Sudanese political parties are incapable of solving the countrys political dilemmas. Further research in this area is recommended
