Decomposing Sex Differentials in Life Expectancy among Kuwaitis in Respect to Age and Causes -Specific Death Rates

Auther : Muhammed A. Al-Ramadhan

The objective of this study is to reveal and decompose the development of temporary life expectancy from birth to age 80, and mortality sex differentials among Kuwaitis for 1995 and 2005. The study utilizes the Decomposition Technique which explains the contribution of differentials in age-specific death rates, and on the other hand, in the difference reported in temporary life expectancy between males and females. Vital statistics on mortality produced by the Central Statistical Office, as well civil records on population published by the Public Authority for Civil Information for 1995 and 2005 are used in computing age and cause-specific death rates and constructing life tables for Kuwaiti males and females. The study concludes that temporary life expectancy has been improving among Kuwaitis over the years, and females have a higher life expectancy compared with males. In fact the sex difference in temporary life expectancy is increasing in favor of females. Males> higher mortality levels for age groups 15 to 44 years and 45 to 64 years explained most of the reported differences in temporary life expectancy. As well as males, higher levels of mortality caused by circulatory system diseases and accidents explained most of the temporary life expectancy differences between females and males.
