Emotional Intelligence and its Relation with Cognitive Intelligence & Academic Achievement to a Sample of Taibah University Students in Al-Madinah

The present study aimed to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and both (the cognitive intelligence & academic achievement) to a sample of Taibah university students in Al-Madinah. It also aimed to know the effects of variables of (sex, age, academic major and cultural social level of family) on the whole degree of emotional intelligence and its components: (the emotional awareness, personal emotions management, self-motivation, empathy and others emotions management) in the members of the sample.

The research tools consisted of (1. Emotional Intelligence Measure, 2. Intelligence Figured Test, 3. Educational & Social State Form) which were applied with a sample of (126) males & females students of Taibah University in Al-Madinah. The statistical data processing was executed using Simple Pearson Correlation, (t-test) for variables of two levels, and (MANOVA) for variables of three levels.

According to the statistical processing, the findings suggested that there was no statistically significant relationship between the emotional intelligence and cognitive intelligence. However, there was a positive significant relationship between the academic achievement and the emotional intelligence with its components and whole degree; except (personal emotions management & empathy) components.

While,in general, the Findings revealed that there were significant differences contributed to variables of (sex, age, and cultural social level of family) in the emotional intelligence. However, there was no significant effect to variable of (academic major) on the emotional intelligence nor its components. The researcher concluded with some suggestions and recommendations through the findings of his study.
