Quantitative analysis of the relation between the family and youth behavior (An exploration study on Kuwaiti family)

Auther : Saleh Lairi

The aim of this study is to analyze and evaluate the relation between the behavior of the Kuwaiti family and their adolescent children (boys and girls). The study addresses the type of treatment adolescents receive from their families, and extrapolate the influence of criticism or the trust of families in their sons. It also explores the influence of the relation or the treat on the growing up through identifying the type of families (dominant, forgiving, clear, realistic, controlled or monitoring, trusty, skeptic, liberal.... etc).

A scientific questionnaire designed for this purpose was distributed on a sample of 282 Kuwaiti families. Results show that most of the families lead an encouraging and realistic treat to their sons and daughters in this age with an attitude to liberal thinking and flexibility which help them find solutions to problem and challenges facing them. The results also show that the passive and negative treatment is badly reflected on the youth behavior and may cause conflict and complications. On the contrary, the positive treatment help them to pass the adolescence period safely and securely.

On the other hand, the study proved that the self freedom and personality development efforts exerted and practised by the families play an important role in improving and developing youth hobbies and interests inside and outside their homes, and encourage the safe and proper practices by them. The study also emphasized the important role and influence of conflicts in the families on their sonsص behavior. Therefore, the study recommended solving these problems away of their sons and stressed the positive impact on consulting and involving them in the decisions making process with their families, as kind of training and practice of taking responsibilities and problem solving practices.
