Water, Population and Urban Growth of Kuwait City: A Study of Two Master Plans (1970, 2003)

Kuwaits transference from the fifties until now to what has been named the planned city, according to deliberate strategies, has determined its urban framework and spatial horizons, according to the land use model. Everything that has happened continues to develop over long periods of time, from one master plan to another master plan until the projections of 2030.

Each master plan has its own projections which have studied urban sprawl, population growth and development through many alternatives, which give planners the ability to maneuver to comply with actual spatial plans and numerical plans in the foreseeable future.

These projections have studied water resources, quantity, and supplies for the duration of the plans, which are affected by some factors. One of these is population growth and its urban reflection on the spatial situation, which is the focus of this research.

The main objective of this study is to analyze water projections in relation to population growth, and urban and spatial reflections within the 1970 - 1995 Kuwait Master Plan (KMP2) and 2003 - 2030 Kuwait Master Plan (KMP3).
