The Relationship Between the Internal - External Control and Brain Preferenceamong Kuwaiti Samples

Auther : Maasouma A. Ibrahim

The study aims to determine the relationship between mental preferences represented in the right and left halves of the brain, and the internal - external control center in selected Kuwaiti samples in the light of a number of demographic variables. The sample consisted of 444 adults: 163 males and 281 females (representing Kuwait University, The College of Basic Education and government and private organizations). The researcher used two main scales: the first for measuring the Brain Preference prepared by Wonder & Donovan, 1984 and translated by the present researcher. The second was Rotters internal - external Control, which measures the control dimension of the individuals. The results of the study can be summarized as follows:

Females were more external when comparing their performance with males and more likely to use the right half of the brain in dealing with others.

There were no significant differences in the performance of the sample on both scales.

Females who have practical specializations were externals.

Students from both sexes and female employees use the right half of the brain when interacting with others and dealing with the different affairs of life.

Unmarried samples used the right brain when dealing with others when compared with the married samples.

A positive correlation between the right half of the brain and the external control was found to be statistically significant
