New Method for the Evaluation of the Typical Suspended Solid Load in the Basins of Western Wadi Hanifa Tributaries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Auther : Mohammed Bourouba

The slopes of drainage basins in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are subject to fluvial erosion during flood time, which causes vertical incision of the wadi courses. Respectively, geomorphic logical studies in the Kingdom are still distant from contributing to the research of quantitative fluvial erosion and suspended solid load in Wadi waters due to the following two reasons:1 - Insufficient hydrological data and time series that record temporal and spatial changes in surface flow.2 - Absence of hydrometric stations along Wadi courses for measuring the temporal and spatial changes of suspended solid load in Wadi waters. This study presents a new method for the evaluation of the vertical incision of Wadi courses and the retreat of relief lines and escarpments in drainage basins. The method is unique because of the following:1 - It is simple and dependent qualitative weighting of rocks samples and morph metric parameter (length, width, and depth) measurements collected from the field).2 - It is applicable to drainage basins under different climatic conditions because it uses no technical equipment for gauging rains and surface flow.3 - It can be used to monitor the spatial extent of fluvial erosion in drainage basins through frequent and event-based measurements of flood.
