Themes of Presleep Thoughts Among students of Kuwait University

This paper examines the themes of presleep thoughts, and its prevalence among a random sample (N = 664) of undergraduates enrolled at Kuwait university. The themes of presleep thoughts schedule comprises130 items, and has a good internal consistency (i.e., 0.91) . The items of the schedule were classified in 10 categories as follows: the future, feelings and emotions, interpersonal relationships, study, religions affairs, the Iraqi invasion, past, general problems, the present, and international problems. Nine out of the aforementioned categories are comparable to the results of a previous study carried out on Egyptian undergraduates.

However, the category pertaining to the Iraqi invasion is specific to Kuwaiti students.

Sex-related differences were salient in the order of the items in the schedule, reflecting different relative importance of these items among males and females. However, the total score on the schedule was not statistically significant between the two sexes. On the one hand, the total score of the following Variables: Number of sleeping hours, shifting between presleep thoughts, and a self-rating of sadness. On the other were nil correlations between the total score on the schedule and the desired number for sleep hours, as well as a self-rating of happiness.
