The selectivity of Jordanian Migration

Auther : Mousa Samha

Economic and political events in the Middle East have been responsible for the impact of migration upon population changes in Jordan, and migration is now considered to be one of the main demographic features of the country. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the selectivity of Jordanian migration, both internal and external, and to examine the major selective variables in this migration process. Sources of data for the study included the 1979 census, a survey of migration in 1967, and annual reports from the Ministry of labor. The study reveals that the most potential migrants are highly qualified professionals, and that the prevailing trend is for the movement of families, thus involving different age groups in the migration process.
