A System Instructional Model for the Measurement of Psychological Competencies

Auther : Salah-Eddin Allam

The purpose of this study is to design and verify empirically a system instructional model to be used in the measurement of basic psychological competencies, using the criterion-referenced evaluation approach. The proposed model utilizes recent developments in instructional psychology. Seven basic competencies was specified and structurally analyzed into hierarchical prerequisite task according to different types of learning. The entry and enabling objectives relevant to the tasks were then formulated and validated. Two seven-equivalent forms of criterion-referenced tests measuring the competencies were developed and content validated. Instructional procedures and activities were also designed. The model was then verified using two random sample groups of graduate students (37  students each). The researcher instructed the experimental group according to the proposed model, and instructed the control group by traditional methods. The results indicated significant differences between the two groups in all but two competencies.

The effectiveness of the model is discussed in terms of its components and related literature.
