Difference Between Trouble-Makers and Normal Girl Students in Qualitative Performance on the Porteus Test

Auther : Abdel-Fattah El-Korashy

The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference on qualitative performance on the Porteus Maze Test between trouble-makers and normal girl students. The sample consisted of 25 female students from the 4th grade at intermediate schools in Kuwait who were known to be trouble-makers according to school records, and an equivalent number of 25 normal students matched for sex, age, education and socioeconomic level. The Porteus Maze Test was administered to each student according to qualitative procedures. The hypothesis of this study states that the qualitative scores of trouble-makers would be higher on certain aspects of behavior on the Maze Test than those of normal students. The findings indicate significant differences (at the .01  level) in various aspects, with the trouble-makers scoring consistently higher on all measures of the test. It is evident that students whose behaviors in real life situations are characterized by impulsiveness, carelessness and disregard for rules manifest the same behaviors in their responses to the test. These findings also support the predictive value of the Porteus Maze Test as a measure of certain types of misbehavior.
