The economic penetration of political science: An Analytical Study

Auther : Abdullah J. AL –Ghamidi

The discipline of political science, and political development subfield in particular, has been effectively penetrated by the discourse and methodology of political economy, Especially that of neoclassical economics. This economic penetration is reflected in the various attempts by many conservative specialists in political development in the United states toward building a new theory of political development that could overcome the pitfalls and failures of the modernization and dependency theories that dominated the filed in the past . This new trend argues that development process is heavily influenced by the in traction between economic cost benefit analysis, treating other social and cultural variables as irrelevant. Although this new trend could be useful in discovering a more appropriate and less normative theory of political development, I argue that development process represents much more than an exercise in economic cost/benefit analysis, and representative of the historical debate concerning human nature and ought to be studied and analyzed as multidimensional process.
