Job Opportunities for Psychology Graduates in Kuwait

This study aimed to identify the job fields, which have been occupied by both male and female psychologists in Kuwait and to report whether Psychology graduates are working in specialties related to their major. Further this study aimed to identify whether those still on the job and those terminated limited in relation to it. Or have no relationship. The sample consisted of 2,493 male (19.3%) and female (80.7%) employees, representing all those registered in the civil service in the year 1995 in the filed of psychology, with average service of 9.9 years (SD=7.3). The results indicated that were four times as many females in the work force as males. Also, it three most attractive jobs were (nursery school teacher) 33.6% all females; psychologist 13.9%, no significant difference between sexes; and philosophy teacher (7.2%, males were significantly higher). Also, we found that 76.2%of the gradates worked in educational fields) females were significantly higher) , whereas there were 16.8% in the administrative field ( males were significantly higher) . Most of the graduates 73.9% worked for the ministry of Education. Moreover, 60.8% of graduates occupied jobs directly related to psychology (females, group and those still at work were significantly higher than their counterparts). Furthermore 30.3% of the total sample worked in careers that were the psychological professions; whereas 8.9% were in jobs that have no relationship to the profession. Males  and those terminated were significantly higher than their counterparts.
