Optimum population concept with special reference to the United Arab Emirates

optimum population concept has been explained by several researchers in population studies mainly in English. The Arabic geographical studies, which dealt with this subject, have been scarce and short. This article is interested in explaining the evolution of the concept, discussing the general global trend for limiting population growth, and explaining some of the methods for calculating the optimum population. The study also discusses the growth of the population of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the period 1900-1993, and the effect of oil production on this growth. Based on certain economic parameters, the study estimated an optimum population. The study estimated an optimum population of the UAE is an under-population can be increased by encouraging migration from Arab-Islamic countries and encouraging the natural increase of the local population.
