Work and Family Health The Perceptions of Working Mothers

Auther : Mona Younes

This study examined the negative attitudes of working mothers towards their work, especially with regard to the perceived deleterious effect of their work on the health of their families. The sample was drawn from a group of women working in factories in different provinces of Iraq. They were given a questionnaire relating to aspects of health of the various members of the family. The results highlighted the concern that working mothers have about the effect of their work on their families, ranging from the needs of children for love and attention, to the perceived loneliness and isolation of the husbands. Many working mothers also suffer from exhaustion due to mothering babies at night. Recommendations are made concerning improved nursery school provision, family education curriculum at schools, mass media programs and legislation in the area of family health.
