Some Issues of Instructional Supervisor’s Work at General Educational Schools in Kuwait

Auther : Abdul Rahman Al-Ahmad

This study is based on a survey of attitudes of instructional supervisors working in the general educational system in Kuwait. The technique adopted by all supervisors is classroom observation followed by discussion, and most supervisors feel the objectives are clear, although all would welcome vocational training prior to appointment. In spite of the fact that all supervisors were satisfied with their work, there were complaints about the number of teachers to supervise, the amount of routine clerical work, the non-cooperation of some school administrations and the traveling distances involved. There have been several new developments in the field, such as different techniques and educational aids, but little research has been conducted on the supervisors.

The study makes various proposals to improve the standard of the supervisor’s work. They include group tutorials and discussions, post graduate training, access to reference books, a reduction of the workload, improvements in conditions and salary, and a greater participation in the selection of new recruits and the design of curricula. Recommendations include clearly defining the objectives of instruction and relating salary to qualifications.
