The Effectiveness of Executive Group Decisions in Kuwaiti Companies

Auther : Hamed A. Bader

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of group decisions made by senior and middle level managers in large Kuwaiti companies. Completed questionnaires were received from 61 managers of the 45 large companies in Kuwait. The results show that the majority of respondents have positive attitudes toward group decisions, feeling that they are more rational and engender more commitment. Group decisions tend to be related to non-routine matters, and the optimum group size is six managers. However, there are various problems associated with group decision making, especially in the planing, preparation and discussion stages. The paper concludes by offering suggestions and recommendations to increase the effectiveness of this type of managerial decision making.
