The African Position on The Palestinian Question

Auther : Magdy Hammad

This research aims to study and assess the nature of the African position towards the Palestinian question and the Arab-African meetings during the fifties and sixties, especially after establishment of the Organization of African Unity when some African non-Arab states asked to dissolve the League of Arab Countries for the benefit of the new organization. Also they declared continental limits for any Arab-African cooperation. That is to say that the Palestinian Question, in particular, is outside the scope of African area of interest. As the frequent African summits OAU have consistently declared their commitment to this position, even after the Israeli aggression of June 1967-this research attempts, also to analyze and explain this African stance. Then, it follows up the transfers and shifts in the African position especially during and after October War of 1973, so as to define the actual limits of these shifts and their content. Here it is enough to a statement by the president of Senegal (1971). Mr.Sengor, where he identifies Zionism as a national liberation movement.
