Britain and the Search for a Peaceful settlement to the Palestinian Problem during the Arab Revolution in Palestine (1930-1939)

Auther : A.Ahmad

The long duration and intensity of the Arab revolt in Palestine impelled the British government to find a peaceful soluation to the Palestine problem. Various suggestions for a settlement were put forward either publicly or in private communications to the colonial office by persons concerned with the problem. Proposed solutions which were discusses and around some interest were those of cantonization a demographic solution, political party and that of partition. Other solutions were also presented by king Ibn Saud, Nuri Pasha and Newcombe. However, none of proposals offered a lasting solution to the Palestinian problem. The failure of the British government to achieve this exposed the shortcomoing and weakness of traditional British policy in Palestine and hence led to the British withdrawal from Palestine after paving the way for the estabilishment of an illegal Jewish state in Palestine.
