Consumer Protection in Developing Countries: Problems and Issues

Auther : Mohamed B. Mansour

Although consumerism movements took place earlier in the developed countries and consumer protection legislation and programs were implemented as early as the beginning of this century, the consumerism movement which has been active since the early 1960 is different from the previous ones in duration, scope and impact. The consumerism movement of the 1960s, which emerged first in the United State, resulted from different circumstances, has covered more issues and activities than the previous consumerism movements, and is still in existence. In addition, the 1960s consumerism movement in the United states has had a more far reaching effect on all parties involved in the market place, namely, Federal State and local governments, consumers, business firms, consumer advocates and consumer Organizations, than any previous consumerism movements.
