Auther : M.A.El-Farra

Geography is an independent discipline that deals with physical, social and formal sciences without being part of them. This paper seeks to examine the interrelations between geography and the social sciences. Geography studies phenomena spatially and analysis the interaction among them and among their elements and components. Since social economic phenomena in all regions of the world have emerged nowadays as important issues needing study and discussion, geographers who for a long time were involved in traditional and classical topics began to be induced to contribute to the study of such matters. The participation of geographers in social and economic topics stimulated deep cooperation with researchers in social sciences. For instance, geographers discovered the concept of region but economists succeed in defining it on a scientific bases. The result of the common interest of geographers and economists was the emergence of new fields of study and sub-disciplines such as space economy and regional science. This paper believes that more cooperation between geography and social sciences will take place in the near future. This cooperation may geography nearer to social sciences than physical sciences.
