The Arab Order and the Gulf Crisis

Auther : Ahmad Youssef Ahmad

The Major concern of this paper is to analyze the Arab Order in its relationship to the Gulf crisis from a system perspective. It deals in particular with the Arab Order as a source of the crisis and examines the impact of the latter on that order.

The study considers several characteristics of the Arab Order as causes of the Gulf crisis. These are: the nature of the political borders between the Arab countries, the state of democracy within the ruling political system, the maldistribution of population and wealth, the absence of effective mechanisms capable of resolving conflicts between the Arab countries and the Iraqi ambitions for leadership in the Arab World.

The impact of the crisis on the Arab Order is then discussed as it resulted in an unprecedented slattern not only among the governments themselves but among masses as well.

Finally, the paper concludes with a discussion of the future of the Arab order with a special emphasis being given to its foundation and potential development.
