Non-Arab Immigration to Kuwait with Special Reference to Asian Immigrants

Auther : A.Al-Moosa

Migration as a demographic phenomenon indicates different socio-economy and political features created at both the sending area, as expressed by the push factors, and the receiving ones, as expressed by the pull factors. Theses factors have been discussed in many economic and population studies and it seems unnecessary to review them here. In this research ,which focuses on the migratory movement of some non-Arab immigrants to Kuwait, it will be necessary to limit the discussion to certain aspects of these movement , the major pull effects causing them, as well as to highlight some of their socio-economic impacts. Starting from the second half of this century, Kuwait witnessed a quick economic growth resulting from the sudden and continuous increase in oil revenues . This led to a large increase in public expenditures and extended credit facilities to cover different branches of the private sector; it also raised the standard of living in the country to a first class level among all other Gulf city states and other countries of the world.
