The Effects of Socioeconomic Status (SES) and Birth Order (Bo) on the Moral Development of Jordanian Children

Auther : M.Touq

154 Jordanian children were put in a tempting situation to study their resistance to temptation experimentally. A special game was devised for this purpose and Ss were observed through a one way mirror while playing the game .The frequency of their cheating behavior was analyzed. A one-way analysis of variance was used to study the effect of SES on resistance to temptation, and a 2x2 analysis of variance was used to study the effects of SES and BO on resistance to temptation. The results of the analysis of variance showed that SES had a significant effect on the frequency of resistance to temptation behavior (0.05) but not on the latency behavior . BO had no significant effect on the frequency and latency of resistance to temptation behavior at an 0.05 . There were also no significant interaction effects of SES and BO. The results of the study were discussed in light of relevant research and psychoanalytic, cognitive, and leaming of moral development.
