AL-FARABI’S PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION; ITS PRINSIPLES AND MAIN CHARACTERISTICS

Auther : Osama Shamout

The philosophy of Al-Farabi was influenced and shaped by many factors at the time when his book (Are) Ahil Almadina , was written. Among those factors we find Greek philosophy , new Platonism, Sufi religious trend, and the political-social events of the third Abbasid Era.

Al-Farabi tried to create a portrait for the happy ideal society that he envisioned and hoped for its realization.

To help in creating the ideal society, education to Al-farabi had a special differentiating role, when it comes to philosophy, goals, curricula and methods of teaching. He extended the function of education to include all social interactions and all relationships within the society especially those which related to the lopsided human values of his time.
