Mass Communication and Stereotypes

Recent developments in mass communication media have resulted in the increasing involvement of people in local as well as in world affairs and events. Consequently people often have to express their opinion or formulate judgments expresses are then based on the persons own impressions, in the light of his own experience, or on the images of the world that might be popularly held in his society at that time .i.e. stereotypes. The purpose of this study is threefold;First, to explore the ways in which stereotypes are formed, discuss their major characteristics, and evaluate their role in mass communication.Second, to define the role mass media in turn play in creating, maintaining, and or modifying stereotypes, and hence in forming , shaping, and changing attitudes and goals in society.Third, to discuss some aspects of the role stereotypes play in international communication and hence in international relations.The study is analytical-expository, and deals with the concept of stereotypes primarily research is needed.
