Effects of Psychological Factors on Development

Auther : El-Sayed Hamed

This paper examines aspects of the psychological factors that may influence the dynamics of social relations among individuals and/or groups within the social structure of a society. The theme then centers on how people respond to, and cope with, Development Projects in the frame-work of the study of social attitudes. This problem is examined in two newly established communities in upper Egypt. Data is, therefore, empirical, based on ethnographic field work. The theoretical approach is based on the structural-functional perspective. The main thrust in this study is to show the importance, and the need for, an investigation of the psychological factors affecting social attitudes towards Development. This should, however go, side by side with studying other factors such as those related to economics, ecology, kinship and Power structure within the community. In brief, the notion of interrelatedness among social institutions can be better examined and understood in the light of an interdisciplinary perspective when studying and assessing development.
