Managerial Perceptions of Personality Traits

Auther : Ikhlas A. Abdalla

The objectives of this research are to examine firstly, the relative importance of a set of inner – and other – directed personality traits, and secondly, the influence of a set of demographic characteristics on the levels of importance of those traits. Data were collected from 103 managers from factories, investment organizations, banks and hotels in the State of Kuwait. Results obtained indicate that in general inner-directed traits are relatively more important. The manager’s nationality (that is, whether he is Kuwaiti or a non Kuwaiti) has minimal effect on the importance of the personality traits. Younger managers, middle level managers, and those with less work experience assign more importance to inner – directed traits. More educated managers behave in an other – directed fashion. Factory managers are more inner- directed than bank, investment organization and hotel managers.
