Focus Groups as a Method of Data Collection in Social Studies

The paper introduces the focus groups to the Arab researcher as data collection technique that could be used in both evaluation and social studies. It provides the reader with a short list of definitions of the technique, brief history, and reasons for utilizing this particular technique in the data collection process. It also presents where the technique can be used as a main data collection method and as a supportive one in the scientific research steps (problem definition, stating hypotheses, data collection, data analysis, and stating conclusions). In addition, the way of conducting the technique, analyzing the data collected via it, and its validity and reliability were given. The paper stated the advantages and disadvantages of the technique comparing with the questionnaire.
