Innovation in the Explication Methodologies

Of Al Zamakhshri and Sayed Kutb: A Com-

paritive and Analytical Study:

By Mohammed Rifa’t Zanjir

The important research deals with two famous commentaries: Al Kashaf of Al Zamakhshri and Fi Dhelal Al Koran (Al Dhelal) of Sayed Kutb. It consists of a preface, an introduction, four topics and a conclusion.

The preface reviews the importance of explication, methodologies of innovation, the prevailing forms of imitation and innovation, the superiority of Al Kashaf and of Al Dhelal over the other books of explication. The study tries to uncover the innovative methodologies of these two commentaries, how they relate and differ from each other and to reveal the opinions and attitudes of other scholars towards them. The study aims at revealing the elements of originality and innovation in these two commentaries and the effort and excellence of these two scholars in explaining the Book of ALLAH and in defending the miracles of his Messenger (peace be upon Him).

The introduction deals with six items/elements: definition of explication and interpretation, sources of the commentator, trends in explication, innovation in explication, the issue of inimitability and how it relates with explication, and the necessary rules in explication. These are presented as introductory elements that will integrate the research and to make it useful it useful for both researchers and readers.

The treatise shows that no claims except with presence of messengers because the mind may fall short of knowing the theology of divinity and the religious obligations. Materials from Al Zamkhshri. The treatise discusses the opinions of scholars on Kutb’s methodology, his attitudes toward old men of rhetoric, his relation with Al Zamkhshri , his attitudes towards the rhetorical terminology, his use of Salafi methodology which is based on classicism and transmission, the opinions of scholars on Fi Dhelal Al Koran and its criticism.

Topic Three (The Inimitability of Koran between Al Zamakhshri and Kutb) Al Zamkhshri thinks that the inimitability exists in the Koran. This opinion stands in contrast to that of Al Nadhdham, head of Mu’tazilites, who believed that the inimitability is due to Sirfa (that is Allah had turned the Arabs for imitating the Koran and that inimitability is not an interior, inside the Koran). This was also the opinion of Kutb, yet he elabora
