How to Implant Islamic Values in the Youth?

Auther : Dr. Ismail Hasanain Ahmad

The manufacturer of any machine or a complicated apparatus is the only one entitled to prepare the “manual” of operating and maintaining it. The user must follow accurately the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid having the machine damaged or getting out of order. Also, legislators in any ruling system make numerous laws and state that these laws are suitable to their nation and people, request all people - public and elite - to obey them under the pretext of protecting individual and national security and safety as well as achieving prosperity for their people. Severe punishment is waiting any body who violates these laws. Would it not be more reasonable and logical that people should obey, with more respect and submission, the laws and systems of Allah, the Creator of the whole universe and the Giver of law, according to His perfect knowledge of the nature and secrets of all of His creatures? Would it not be much more beneficial and suitable for their life?

If we study deeply, in Ch.17 of Al-Quran: Al-Isra’, those verses (23-39), which starts saying: “ Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents …”, we will find a bunch of guiding instructions certainly sufficient, for any society that follow them honestly, to achieve a well-balanced ideal life in all aspects: spiritual, physical, sociopolitical, intellectual and scientific, religious and worldly, a life which is free from moral defects and behavioral deviations currently spreading in the life of most, if not all, world populations.

If human beings do not follow the Quranic instructions coming from Allah Who knows best what rectifies their life, adjusts and regulates their affairs and behavior, and controls their emotions, what good else left for them?

Individual efforts to implant values in our youth are important, but they are not so effective as the institutionalized work through governmental or non-governmental educational, religious, social, cultural, informational and security establishments and organizations, particularly when they cooperate together to avoid any conflict of objectives.

The role of these establishments come after that of the family and home where the young receives his first dose of cultural structure. The task of the family is indispensable; hence, the first responsibility is on the parents’ shoulders before other educationists. So, every person must know his duty towards the youth and have it fulfilled in the way that pleases Allah, Glory be to Him.
