Merits of Islam’s Purposes:

Auther : Dr. Muhammad Abul-Fat-h Al-Bayanouni

Understanding merits of Islam in general and those of its purposes in particular is a religious necessity, because sound understanding of Islam helps Muslim stick to the right path; it is also a need for Da’wah (Propagation of Islam), because the more propagators clearly understand Islam and nicely introduce it the more people accept it and visa versa.

Many misconceptions were raised against Islam and some of them have almost invaded some Muslim minds. Convincingly introducing the merits of Islam is the best way to refute such misconceptions and have them fade away.

Many of those who wrote about the purposes of Islam concentrated on defining and classifying them more than on clarifying their characteristics and effects. Hence, the topic of this paper was dedicated to the merits of the purposes of Islam along three main chapters:

  1. Purposes and their categories,
  2.

  3. Unveiling their characteristics,
  4.

  5. Discovering some of their effects
  6.

Islamic purposes were defined as follows: “ Those for which Islam was revealed” . They were classified into three categories:

  1. Necessary purposes,
  2.

  3. Need satisfying purposes,
  4.

  5. Improvement purposes
  6.

These purposes are again classified into: General, special, main and subordinate; their characteristics are also classified into:

Divinity , perfection, clarity, comprehensiveness, balance, practicality, suitability to “al-fitrah” (innate human nature), validity and legitimacy of means.

The effects of these purposes are felt in the following examples:

  1. A believer is so keen to stick to them that his personal purposes follow and become guided by those of Sharia.
  2.

  3. Endeavor to actualize them,
  4.

  5. Avoidance of all contrary purposes,
  6.

  7. Realizing the sound Islamic view from among confusing views,
  8.

  9. Sound interpretation of other scholars’ opinions,
  10.

  11. Weighing and distinguishing views of scholars and forerunners,
  12.

  13. Optimistic view towards results and promises,
  14.

  15. Fair persons Accept Islam as a result of understanding its purposes,
  16.

  17. Fading away of many misconceptions
