Dr. Mohamed Ali Hareb Jubran

Prof. Assistant - Division of Fiqh basics, C ollage of Education - Science and Technology University of Mahara Governerate Hadramout- Republic of Yemen

This research discusses the limits of the “Sahabi” or the Prophet’s Companion as defined by Fiqh fundamentalists and Hadith narrators. It contains seven topics and a conclusion.

First topic: Definition of Sahabi lexically and idiomatically: In this part I showed differences of scholars in their definitions of a Sahabi and those who extended Companionship   and those who narrowed and restricted it. I mentioned  six definitions which included all scholars difference.

The second topic: I discussed important issues related to the definitions as stipulating meeting the prophet, before revelation or after and faith in him during his life or after revelation and other issues.

Third topic: I mentioned the effect of differences in defining Sahabi as judging his fairness and accepting his Hadith and considering the Sahabi an authority of Hadiths.

Fourth topic: I assigned this topic to Sahabi’s fairness. I mentioned unanimity of scholars on fairness of a Sahabi and their evidences and mentioned those who differed and who were against unanimity and replies on them.

I finished this topic by showing the significance of Sahabi’s fairness that is: accepting his narration and take it for granted.
