Investigate the University students perception of test - cheating behavior, to assess the size of cheating problem

The purpose of this study was: to investigate the University students’ Perception of Test-cheating behavior, to assess the size of cheating problem, and to identify the motivations of this behavior.

The response of 1041 students on a 27 item questionnaire-constructed to attain the purposes of this study reveled that the students had miss-perception of cheating behavior, and 78% assessed the size of this problem below the average. The results indicated that the “grade-pressure” had the highest effect on motivating cheating behavior, while the unawareness of the consequences of cheating had the lowest effect.

It is recommended that the negative effects of cheating behavior should be explained to the students though a structured program using the hierarchy of motivations which is presented in the results of this study. The efficiency of this program should be Investigated changes of cheating behavior by follow studies.
