Auther : Shadia A. Al-Tal & Mohammd F. Maqdadi

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of using questions that require higher mental abilities on reading comprehension. Sixty students from the fifth grade were randomly divided in to two groups: An experimental group used questions that require higher mental abilities, and a control group used the questions of the prescribed book. A fifty - questions test was developed in order to measure reading comprehension. The results revealed a significant difference (x= 0.05) in reading comprehension between the experimental and the control groups. The questions that require higher mental abilities were more effective, in terms of reading comprehension, than the questions used in the text-book.
