Development of Scientific Attitudes and understanding the Nature of science among Education students at the University of Jordan

The purpose of this study was to determine the development/growth of scientific attitudes and the level of understanding of the nature of science among college of education students at the University of Jordan as they proceed in thier from freshman to senior year. The sample consisted of 87 students (45 freshmen and 42 senior students) randomly selected from the population of College of Education students ant Jordan University. To collect data NOST and scientific attitudes tests were used. The major findings of the study may be summarized as follows:-

(1) By and large, the level of scientific attitudes and understanding of the nature of science among college of education students was low and less than the accepted minium level (60%).

(2) There was significant statistical differences in the means of scores in scientific attitudes among freshmen and senior students (in favor of seniors) due to their transfer from freshman to senior year.

(3) There was no significant statistical statistical differences the means of scores in understanding the nature of science among College of Education students (freshmen vs. Seniors).

(4) There was significant correlational relationship (freshmen students: r =0.86 and for seniors: r = 0.47) between students scientitic attitudes and their understanding of the nature of science.
